Drew Park in Lake Charles LA Has a History

Drew Park  in Lake Charles LA was dedicated by Harrison Drew in the 1900's

Pictured above is the Drew Park archway entrance along Shell Beach Drive.  The Park is named after Harrison Drew who was a

lumber merchant who came to Lake Charles from Galveston, Texas in 1878.

Prior to his death in 1916, Harrison Drew presented to the city, the  land adjoining Fourth Ward School to be used for a public park.

This is a photo of Drew Park  in 1909

This is the entrance as it appears today on S Ryan Street in Lake Charles LA

Drew Park  is maintained by the City of Lake Charles Department of Recreation & Parks.

The City of Lake Charles Recreation and Parks Department also schedules the  community center that can be used for birthday parties and other events.

With the close proximity to St. Patrick Hospital just across the street, St Patrick Hospital visitors and employees can take a break and enjoy lunch or read under a shady tree in Drew Park.

For those who are fitness minded, Drew Park also offers a walking, or jogging path.  Several runners along Shell Beach Drive can detour through the Shell Beach entrance to Drew Park!

Drew Park in Lake Charles, LA  has been a Lake Charles  favorite spot for picnics and providing entertainment to children with it's a shady play area.
