City of Lake Charles Preview of New Lakefront Downtown Development

During a recent press conference the City of Lake Charles shared new Lakefront Downtown Development projects .  This is a glimpse of what will be constructed in downtown Lake Charles in the near future.  Contractors will now begin to submit bids. The Promenade is scheduled to be completed in August and is looking good!

The rest of the Lakefront improvements will be in 3 phases- the Bord du Lac Park Maintenance Building will be Phase I with a completion date of June 2011.  Bord du Lac Park Gateway & Playground Phase II will be completed July 2011 and the Bord du Lac Ampitheater Phase III will be completed in July 2012.  There will also be an extension of Gill Street connecting to downtown Lake Charles and a Ryan Streetscape to be completed February 2012. When its all said and done, the Boardwalk will connect to Downtown Lake Charles making this area of the City of Lake Charles an intertwined walking downtown district similar to what is found in larger metro cities.

I heard Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach give an overview of all the new projects last weekend at Red White Blue and You.  He explained how the design of the current Ampitheater will be changed and there will be a new fountain at the end of the Boardwalk with a flying geese design.  Mayor Roach said next July we will have alot to celebrate with the new facilities in place.

NEW DECORATIVE INTERSECTIONS

Intersections will have decorative medallions.  If they are as intricate as the new Boardwalk designs, our streets will have a charming beauty! Fleur de Lis at Boardwalk

Exciting things on the horizon for the City of Lake Charles in 2011 and 2012!
